Environment Rating Scales (ERS) or Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)? What are these tools and how are they used to support Oregon’s early learning system? In this session we will examine the assessment process and the most commonly used standardized tools. Participants will strategize how to support early learning programs and care providers when selecting a tool for their program.

Join us to see how they show up in behavior management, expectations, and interactions with children, and learn practical strategies to move from awareness to action, creating more equitable and supportive learning environments.

We will determine what loose parts are during this training through experimental activities. Participants will determine the value of learning through loose parts materials in the classroom. Participants will practice creating classroom provocations using loose parts and learning materials. Lastly, participants will plan activities for their classroom using loose parts materials.

In this interactive session, participants will explore what educators can learn from children's approaches to discovery and creativity. Together, we will examine how playful learning experiences can strengthen engagement, belonging, and deeper learning, particularly in bilingual and multilingual settings.

This Set Two training explores new Oregon licensing requirements and responsive practices for naps and rest. Participants will compare requirements for Registered Family, Certified Family, and Certified Center programs; analyze common nap and rest challenges; and develop flexible strategies that support children’s individual needs while maintaining safe, developmentally appropriate, and compliant practices.

Participants will explore preventative, supportive, and referral pathways available across Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties to address challenging behaviors and reduce preventable disenrollment. Participants will identify appropriate resources, navigate local systems of support, and determine next steps for connecting children, families, and early learning programs with support, including the Every Child Belongs (ECB) referral pathway.

This training introduces "whole-brain" strategies designed to foster emotional health, happiness, and authentic growth in preschoolers. You will discover how to apply brain-based strategies to everyday parenting. We will examine the integration of left-brain and right-brain, equipping participants with strategies to foster emotional regulation and resilience.

This session is designed for early childhood educators and preschool staff working with children ages 3–5. Participants will identify how developing brains and nervous systems respond to stress and recognize how trauma and adverse experiences may affect behavior, emotional regulation, relationships, and learning. They will interpret what challenging behaviors may be communicating, identify underlying needs, and describe ways to create safe, predictable environments that support self-regulation. Through real-life preschool scenarios and discussion, participants will compare children’s behavioral responses, interpret possible needs behind those behaviors, and discuss practical trauma-informed strategies they can use immediately to help children feel safe, supported, connected, and ready to play, communicate, and learn.

To provide responsive, high-quality care, educators must also care for their own physical, emotional, and mental well-being. In this training, participants will explore the impact of stress and burnout, identify practical strategies for building resilience, and develop healthy self-care practices that can be incorporated into everyday routines. Through reflection and discussion, educators will strengthen their ability to maintain personal well-being while creating positive, nurturing environments for children.
