Pediatric CPR and First Aid Training

We offer a blended training that meets the Child Care Licensing Division's (CCLD) requirements for Child Care Providers.

Registration is required 7 days in advance.

You May Be Eligible For Free Training If You Are:

  • A Registered Family (RF) Child Care Provider
  • A Certified Family (CF) Child Care Provider
  • A License-Exempt Provider currently listed with Employment Related Day Care (ERDC)

You will receive

  • 2 Years of Certification

  • A 2-year digital certification card from the Health & Safety Institute (HSI), delivered by email upon successful completion of the course

  • ORO Approved Hours

  • 5.5 Health, Safety, and Nutrition (HSN) training hours
  • ORO hours processed and verified by CCR&R within 10 business days

    • Hands on

    • Hands-on CPR practice and lifesaving skills training

How does it work?

Our blended learning format (also known as hybrid training) consists of two parts:

Step 1

Self-Paced

The self-paced online course includes 57 short videos, each followed by a brief activity or quiz. You will complete this section at your own pace and on your own schedule.

The online course must be completed before attending the in-person skills portion.

Step 2

In-Person

During the in-person skills assessment, you will receive training, practice your new skills and be assessed.

The in-person training is approximately 2 hours long. Upon completion, you will receive your certificate via e-mail.

We offer CPR/FA training in English, Spanish, and Russian.  Registration closes 7 days prior to the training date to provide participants enough time to complete the online portion of the course.

CPR and First Aid Requirements for License Renewal

A current Pediatric CPR and First Aid (CPR/FA) certificate is required for all caregivers in licensed facilities.

Pediatric CPR/FA certificates are typically valid for two years. Caregivers MUST have a current CPR/FA certificate.
Training must include in-person instructor-led practice and assessment to ensure the technique can be performed in an emergency. Online only classes are not accepted.

You may be eligible for training reimbursement from Western Oregon University!

Licensed Family Child Care Providers

Who is eligible?
Individuals that hold the title of “Provider” in a Registered Family or Certified Family Child Care setting.
Requirements for payments:
  • Training must be uploaded to the Oregon Registry Online (ORO).
  • Provider must be linked to the facility in ORO and listed as “provider”.
  • WOU Substitute W-9.
  • Reimbursement will be up to what the local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency Charges

Certified Family Child Care and Certified Centers

Who is eligible?
Certified Center Aide 1 or Assistant Program Leader, or Certified Family Assistant 1 staff.
Requirements for payments:
  • Training must be uploaded to ORO.
  • Employee must have Aide 1, Assistant Program Leader, or Assistant 1 title and be linked to the facility in ORO.
  • Original receipt showing payment.
  • WOU Substitute W-9.
  • Reimbursement request must be submitted within 3 months of training date.

License-Exempt Providers

Who is eligible?
License exempt Family child Care Providers participating in ERDC Subsidy.

What is reimbursable?
Up to $300 of the actual cost of non-college credit community training, workshops, seminars, or conference and college credit classes
